A compelling new Vision model has been unveiled as the opening statement of a strategic realignment, offering the clearest look yet at an evolved design identity for the years ahead. Presented on a historic pier in Queens, New York, which is the same location where the mid-engined 550 Spyder first captured the world’s attention in 1953, the Mission S serves as both a design manifesto and a preview of a permanent mid-engined super sports car platform positioned above the brand’s iconic flagship.
The exterior philosophy follows three guiding principles: authenticity, consistency, and timelessness. Characteristic torpedo fenders, a dramatic width-to-height ratio, and a flowing “flyline” create what designers describe as floating volumes, sculptural surfaces that appear to hover and emphasise the car’s performance intent.
A continuous wraparound line links the front and rear light signatures, while details drawn from past icons are reinterpreted with contemporary precision: round headlights and muscular fenders evoke classic proportions, shut lines recall the G-series, a flat front nods to the GT1, and the roofline extends towards a fully integrated active rear wing in the spirit of the 959. Lightweight wheels inspired by the 928’s telephone-dial design further underline the technical purity.
Inside, the focus returns firmly to the driver. Two continuous lines running through the dashboard and doors recreate the sensation of sitting deep within the car, a hallmark of early sports cars. The interior balances analogue and digital elements. Five round instruments sit behind the steering wheel, with a central rev counter featuring an analogue needle; in more dynamic modes, the cluster physically moves closer to the driver and the instrument tubes reconfigure for greater focus. Classic switches and push-pull controls deliver haptic feedback, while a retractable MagSafe smartphone cradle replaces a permanent central display, keeping the cabin uncluttered. Colour and material choices draw directly from motorsport heritage, using white, grey, and red tones in specially developed finishes.
Beyond its striking form, the Mission S signals the development of a versatile new mid-engined platform intended as a lasting addition to the range rather than a limited-run hypercar. By combining decades of racing expertise with a refined, driver-focused design language, the vision model points towards a future in which the pure sports-car experience remains both emotionally charged and technically advanced.
