Sean Wotherspoon has built much of his career around finding new value in old things. The Los Angeles-based designer and collector co-founded vintage streetwear store Round Two in 2013 before gaining wider recognition through projects including his Nike Air Max 97/1. Vintage clothing, unusual materials, and bold colour combinations have remained central to his work ever since.
Cars have increasingly become part of that world too. Wotherspoon worked with Porsche on a colour-blocked Taycan 4 Cross Turismo in 2022, followed by a customised 911 Carrera 2.7 RS in 2025. His latest Porsche project turns to something older and simpler: the 912.
The exterior features six colours inspired by Porsche’s 1960s palette, with Gulf Blue added as a nod to the marque’s motorsport history. Rather than sharing a single finish, individual panels take on contrasting shades, giving the compact 912 an almost patchwork appearance without disguising its original shape. Paint specialist S-line AG handled the execution.
Wotherspoon’s interest in vintage materials becomes even more apparent inside. FRIP DESIGN upholstered the cabin entirely in old Levi’s denim sourced from jeans dating from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Each section was chosen for its particular fading, wear and texture, turning the marks accumulated over decades into part of the finished design.
There is another layer hidden in the front luggage compartment. Kyoto textile house Okaju, founded in 1855, supplied a bespoke fabric based on its traditional Tai-Zukushi sea-bream pattern, with colours selected by Wotherspoon himself. The project brings together Californian vintage culture, Japanese craft, and a classic Porsche 912 in a way that feels unmistakably his.
