Dutch rally specialist Maturo Competition Cars announced its Maturo 308 Stradale last month. The stunning restomod was based on the Giuliano Michelotto-built Ferrari 308 GTB, originally developed to Group 4 rally specification. What should not be overlooked, however, is that Maturo has also transformed one of these rare Ferrari 308 GTBs into its own vision of the Maturo 308 Rally Car, reviving one of the Prancing Horse’s most fascinating competition machines.
The restoration begins with the original chassis, which is completely stripped, repaired and refinished before receiving an FIA-approved roll cage. More than 150 additional welds significantly improve structural rigidity, while the shell is prepared to accept the iconic wide-body arches that defined Michelotto’s original rally cars.
Power comes from a fully rebuilt V8 prepared to Group 4 specification, incorporating the revised fuel injection system that became one of Michelotto’s defining upgrades over the standard road-going Ferrari 308 GTB. The engine now produces over 300 hp and also benefits from forged pistons, steel connecting rods, a dry-sump lubrication system, modern injectors, a motorsport ECU and numerous strengthened internal components.
A reinforced dog-leg gearbox with shorter gear ratios enables rapid shifts without using the clutch under hard acceleration or braking, while a high-torque motorsport clutch and lightened flywheel sharpen the driving experience further. The suspension has also been comprehensively re-engineered in collaboration with Tractive, blending modern development with proven rally technology to improve both control and confidence across demanding terrain. Completing the package are FIA-homologated brakes with a non-assisted pedal box, adjustable brake bias and a hydraulic handbrake.
Maturo deliberately recreates the atmosphere of the original 1976 Group 4 rally car in the cockpit with remarkable attention to detail. FIA-approved bucket seats, a flocked anti-glare dashboard, period-style gauges and steering wheel are joined by a full communication system, fire suppression equipment, a spare wheel and rally tools, creating an authentic, action-ready machine.
It’s very likely this Maturo 308 Rally Car is a one-off, as Giuliano Michelotto only built 11 examples of the Ferrari 308 GTB rally car. Maturo previously stated it would produce up to 10 examples of the Maturo 308 Stradale, although whether part of that allocation could be shared with the Rally Car remains unknown. Only Maturo can answer that question.
