1967 Ford GT40 replica from Ford v Ferrari

The 2019 blockbuster “Ford v Ferrari” immortalizes the intense rivalry between two legendary constructors during the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans on the big screen. Starring Matt Damon as American automotive designer Carroll Shelby and Christian Bale as British driver Ken Miles, the film’s central narrative unfolds as these two icons collaborate to assemble the victorious Ford GT40. Now, there’s a unique opportunity to own one of the replica GT40 race cars utilized in the filming.

Constructed in 2004, this particular 1967 GT40 replica was built using Cape Advanced Vehicles’ GT40 Build Platform. It is equipped with a 427 ci stroked Ford small block V8 featuring fuel injection and aluminium race heads, along with a proper manual Colotti 4-speed gearbox. Although the car was the sole Ford-powered GT40 featured in the film, it was exclusively used for static displays and close-ups rather than racing scenes. Notably, it played a crucial role in the scene where Ken Miles works inside an airplane hangar while tuning in to the radio. The seller possesses photos and a certificate of authenticity validating its use in the production.

Fascinatingly, the original plan was to paint the car entirely in periodic Indigo Blue to suit its designated “role.” However, upon the film crew’s arrival and witnessing the iconic Gulf livery in blue and orange, they decided to opt for an Indigo Blue vinyl wrap instead. The prospective owner now has the choice of retaining the vinyl wrap or revealing the classic Gulf livery by removing it.

This rare Ford GT40 replica is listed for an asking price of US$254,995, and additional details can be found on Exotic Motorsports of Oklahoma’s website.
