Quite The Pair
Sonny & Cher’s Custom Ford Mustangs Are Up for Auction Again

After they were sold as a pair in 2009 for $198,000, Sonny & Cher’s Custom Ford Mustangs are coming back to the Barrett-Jackson auction house in Arizona later this month.

They were built by the ‘King of Kustomizers’ George Barris in Hollywood in the 1960’s. He painted Sonny’s car in Murano gold pearl, while Cher’s Mustang was painted in hot-pink pearl — 40 coats of pink lacquer to be exact, which was a George Barris trademark, echoing both entertainer’s personalities. Barris also created new front fascias for the cars, as well as swapping in the taillights fitted from the Thunderbird and reworking the interiors with premium suede, ermine fur and Scottish leather.

The Mustangs will be sold again as a pair, bundled with “an extensive collection of Sonny & Cher memorabilia,” in Scottsdale this month.
