Elon Musk’s electric shuttle concept for underground transportation

When Elon Musk first spoke of his vision of transporting cars and passengers in high-speed underground tunnels via his side project The Boring Company, little did we know it would arrive along so quickly. The company has released a few images of an electric shuttle that can carry more than half a dozen of people from ground to underground.

Musk has planned to build a tunnel system underneath key locations of Los Angeles. Vehicles would park at certain parking lots that house the elevators. Once underground each car would be connected to an autonomous electric sled that would transport it at up to 200 km/h inside the tunnels. The shuttle pod we see here serves people who don’t own cars and is also capable of carrying goods as there is even a bicycle inside it. The wheels on the shuttle ensure that it can function as a standard e-car on roads. There is no solid timeline for its launch, but judging from Musk’s recent Ted Talk everything is progressing on schedule.
