For us city dwellers, finding a spot to go off road is nearly impossible not to mention the challenge of just maintaining a parking spot. The moment we saw the outrageous Ripsaw EV2, every practical consideration was thrown aside because it is simply too tempting to ignore.

The “EV” in the vehicle’s name stands for “Extreme Vehicle”, and one look makes that a vast understatement. The predecessor of this fierce off-road vehicle, Ripsaw EV1, was rumoured to be the blueprint of the Peacemaker tracked-vehicle of Mad Max: Fury Road fame, and originally built for the military as a closed-cabin, high-mobility/high-speed, lightweight, super tank.

Mike and Geoff Howe, the creative force behind Howe & Howe Technologies spend six months on each of these two-seaters to make sure it works perfectly from snow to ice to mud and even desert. With a top speed of over 97 km/h, is powered by a 600-HP Duramax diesel engine and equipped with an Allison automatic transmission. Along with a zero-degree turning radius, and a 75 percent grade climbing capability, the EV2 boasts a 40-gallon tank supporting an impressive 483 km range.

Not satisfied yet? Their latest variation, the Ripsaw EV2 Fast Back, is designed with a “pickup truck” styled body that allows carrying bikes or even four wheelers at high speeds over rough terrain. At a base price of US$295,000 it’s not your usual daily car, but it’s a small price to pay to satisfy your inner Mad Max.
