Inside Out Gaming
Nintendo Switch

These days, most people play their games on smartphones, with only comparatively limited numbers of dedicated gamers opting for traditional consoles for better game performance. Nintendo is trying to grab both markets with its just-announced new home gaming system, Nintendo Switch. Targeted at both young gamers and families, Switch takes a further step away from the Wii with its never before seen composition: a separate handheld screen console, dock and Joy-con controllers. The handheld functionality is the key piece of the Switch that allows it to be played alone as a portable device, or connected via the dock and HDMI cable to have the game displayed on the big screen.

The Joy-Con may look like your standard controller when gaming on a big screen, but they can do plenty more. The detachable Joy-Con separates into three pieces, with the left and right pieces clicking onto the handheld tablet. If there are two or more players, each left or right piece of Jon-Con can also function as an individual controller when being held horizontally. Most conveniently, these separations can all be accomplished when the system is switched on. Nintendo is also bringing their best hits to the new system, such as Legend of Zelda, Elder Scrolls, Mario Kart, Super Mario etc. Switch is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra processor, but other specifications such as battery life have not been revealed. More details will be released in March next year.
