Anyone can create voice recording on the go with the birth of smartphone , yet a professional audio recorder is still necessary if a better quality recording is required. The new TP-7 field recorder from Swedish electronics manufacturer Teenage Engineering can easily get the job properly done, and in style.

The palm-size audio recorder certainly has a sleek appearance just like other Teenage Engineering products, but it is the functionality of the device that stands out. The centre motorised tape reel is hard to miss from afar, and it’s a convenient tool for scrubbing and pausing the recording and menu navigation.

Pressing the top edge with the index finger triggers fast forward, and for rewinds just press with the middle fingers. Underneath the rocker is the mode selection button controlled by either the ring or little finger, while on the other side the thumb can quickly start recording a memo.

The recorder has 128 GB internal storage and 7 hour rechargeable battery, making it a versatile device for interviews, podcasts, field recording and more. It also has the power to turn audio into text via the TP-7 iOS app, which is extremely helpful for people having to transcribe recorded speech to text. The internal microphone is mainly used in memo mode for taking notes, and the internal speaker to quickly listen back. In terms of connectivity, 3 two-way 3.5 mm stereo jacks that can be used as either inputs or outputs for external mic, speakers, headphones, or other audio equipment, and charging and data transfer can be done via usb-c.
