Teenage Engineering is best known for its quirky yet highly functional synthesisers and audio gadgets. Yet, its latest project marks a distinct departure: a collaboration with fellow Swedish brand Vässla to design and engineer the EPA-1 electric moped.
“EPA” stands for En Passar Alla—Swedish for “one fits all”—highlighting the modular design ethos shared with Teenage Engineering’s customisable tech gear. Just like its audio equipment, the EPA-1 is made to be updated and personalised with ease.
Visually, the EPA-1 is striking. Its minimalist silhouette is paired with 11 reinforced mounting points that appear as screw holes, designed for accessories such as a front rack, helmet box, passenger seat or other custom solutions.
The EPA-1 offers two motor options performance-wise: a 2,600W version capable of reaching 45 km/h, and a 1,000W model limited to 25 km/h. Two battery packs are available: a 50Ah unit with a 120 km range and a 30Ah version offering up to 70 km. It also features a Bluetooth-connected control unit and a choice of start methods including key card, remote control and traditional key.
The launch edition of the EPA-1 is finished in all black, right down to the screws. The first 50 examples will be individually numbered with a decal on the side of the moped. Additional colour options include white, blue, red and yellow, all staying true to the sleek design language.
