Faraday Future hires GM’ EV engineering chief

It looks like Faraday Future (FF) is ready to show the world their true colours. There had been whispers in the industry that former General Motors engineering chief, Peter Savagian, was joining the startup, but that news is now confirmed via Savagian’s updated LinkedIn profile. He joins FF as Vice President of Propulsion Engineering. His role, in his words, is to “lead engineering operations for powertrain, battery and related high voltage systems”. Savagian brings along his 18 years of experience with General Motors, which began as Chief Designer of the EV1 programme, a project that created the first mass-produced EV from a major automaker. Some of his former EV1 project members including Silva Hiti, Young Mok Doo, and Steven Schulz have also joined the FF team.

The California-based electric car startup’s collection of serious game players began with the hiring of Ex-Ferrari North America CEO Marco Mattiacci as its global Chief Brand & Commercial Officer. Former Tesla employees Nick Sampson and James Chen followed and now serve as Senior Vice President of R&D and Product Development and Vice President of Government Relations & General Counsel respectively. Faraday Future have also partnered with Formula E’s Dragon Racing and have received funding from Chinese online giant LeEco for a new driving research centre.  FF is set to launch an all-electric supercar in 2018.
