Auto Fabrica’s Type 6 and Type 8

Auto Fabrica is found by Kosovan brothers Bujar and Gazmend Muharremi and is based in London. Each year it creates 8 to 12 pieces of artful motorcycles that each takes around six months to build. M.A.D.Gallery founder Maximilian Buesser is a big fan of Auto Fabrica’s Type 6 motorcycle and naturally the Muharremi brothers accepted the invitation to exhibit in his gallery in Geneva. Two pieces, Type 6 and Type 8, are currently being exhibited in the Gallery.

Type 6 is based on the remains of Yamaha XS650 from 1979. The brothers built a tank and seat base as one piece by hand rolling manually-foamed aluminium and the result is in scalloped shape. Some details are added to the original Yamaha bike, including Auto Fabrica manufacture-made stainless steel handlebars, levers, and fork covers. The castings and aluminium components surface have been aqua blasted and 0.5-oversize pistons are used to rebuild the engine. Indeed, they are very proud of their handmade stainless steel exhaust system.

Type 8 set the backbone from 1981 Honda CX500. The main focus is on the flowing lines and it looks completely different from the Type 6. The frame is in its naked form and has a great organic shape laid over the engine, a rarity among 1980’s Japanese bikes. This specialty stimulated them to create the hand-formed aluminium tank as an extension of the frame. The stainless steel exhaust pipes are also set higher than usual. Both Type 6 and 8 are perfect examples of complexity expressing simplicity.
