Built To Start A Conversation
Bentley Bentayga ‘X’ Concept

Bentley used the spectacle of the FAT Ice Race in Zell am See to unveil the Bentayga ‘X’ Concept, a one-off designed to explore a more focused off-road direction for its best-selling SUV. Rather than presenting it as a finished product, Bentley positions the concept as a conversation starter, built to invite feedback while also marking the beginning of a new multi-year partnership with FAT International.

The idea is simple: the Bentayga already balances performance, refinement and off-road ability, but its line-up places emphasis on different pillars. The Bentayga Speed is the dynamic flagship, the Extended Wheelbase leans into rear-seat luxury, and the Bentayga X Concept targets the third pillar by pushing further into genuine off-road intent without abandoning the brand’s road-going pace and polish.

The engineering changes go well beyond cosmetics. Based on a Bentayga Speed, it retains the 641-hp 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with permanent four-wheel drive and an eight-speed transmission, while air suspension is complemented by Bentley Dynamic Ride, the brand’s 48V active anti-roll system.

The stance, however, is transformed with forged single-piece 22-inch wheels by Brixton wear high-profile off-road tyres, the track is widened by 120 mm for added stability, and ride height rises by 55 mm to increase suspension travel and ground clearance. Wheel arches move outboard by 40 mm to match, delivering over 550 mm of wading depth and just under 310 mm of ground clearance.

The concept remains purposefully functional, with roof-mounted storage, four spotlights for longer adventures, and twin front towing eyes. At the rear, the Akrapovic titanium sports exhaust remains a focal point. As a concept built to gather feedback, the Bentayga X feels like Bentley testing just how far its SUV can lean into the wild—while still retaining the Speed’s muscle and the brand’s signature refinement.
