1999 Jordan 199 Formula 1 Racer

Ayrton Senna’s two Formula 1 race cars, namely the 1993 McLaren MP4/8A and the 1984 Toleman-Hart TG184, have been getting the limelight of the up coming RM Sotheby’s Monaco auction on 11 May, but let’s not forget there are other gems from the sale event. This 1999 Jordan 199 F1 challenger is one of those worth paying attention to.

German driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen joined the Jordan team in 1999, partnering with Damon Hill. The chassis number 003 car here was driven by Frentzen in the Australian then Brazilian Grands Prix, where he took second and third place respectively. The car was then used as a spare and was not raced again. Both Frentzen and the team finished the season in third place. It was also the best performing season for Jordan in their history in F1.

Covered in a bright yellow livery, the race car features a Mugen-Honda 3-litre V10 engine, which is still substantially complete. The winning bidder may enter this gem into historic races such as BOSS Formula, which allows 1990s and 2000s Grand Prix cars to show their true colours where they belong.
