A showcase of history and the future
Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2016

The historical Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este was held on May 20—22 this year. As one of the most notable events showcasing rare vintages, it was first organised in 1929 with the aim of introducing innovations in the car industry. It was on hiatus in the 40’s and returned on 1999. Currently supported by the BMW Group, the event is again regaining its prestige pedigree, and it’s easy to see why: the seductive opportunity to view 52 impeccably maintained rare cars plus 35 classic motorcycles in the beautiful setting of Villa d’Este, on the banks of Lake Como, Italy.

The theme for this year was “Back to the Future – The Journey Continues” and indeed, new concepts were also displayed. As with previous years, there were two best of show awards. The first, selected by a jury panel of experts was the 1954 Maserati A6 GCS. The second, voted by the public, went again to the 1933 Lancia Astura Serie II by Castagna; it had previously received the same honor at the Concorso d’Eleganza back in 1935.
