A Jaw-Dropping Sculptural Clock
Nixie Machine II by Frank Buchwald

To coincide with the 5th anniversary of the M.A.D. Gallery, German sculptor Frank Buchwald has teamed up with Dalibor Farny to create the new Nixie Machine II clock.

Designed by Buchwald, the Nixie Machine II is made with Nixie tubes that have been handcrafted by Farny in his Czech Republic-based workshop. Each tube features a steampunk-like inner structure awash with honeycomb grids and tungsten wires smelted with glass lighting up filigree digits encapsulated in blown glass cylinders. The clock measures 1.2 meter-long and displays insect-like limbs supporting the central body, while steel brackets enclose the Nixie tubes like arms gripping time. An orange glow surrounding the visible inner structure of the Nixie tubes provides the piece with an industrial look and bio-animated character.

The Nixie Machine II supports Wi-Fi connectivity to keep accurate time without the need of setting it manually. All settings and special features such as scrolling effects, day/night modes, digit light dimming and time zone settings can be intuitively programmed online. Alternatively, the clock can be regulated by a dial on the back when offline.

The Nixie Machine II will be shown exclusively in the M.A.D. Galleries in Geneva, Dubai and Taipei, with only 12 pieces available worldwide.
