Pro-Ject has never been shy about giving its turntables a stunning appearance, but its latest collaboration takes that idea somewhere rather different. Created with Harley-Davidson, the limited-edition Harley-Davidson Turntable translates one of motorcycling’s most recognisable emblems into a piece of high-end analogue audio equipment.
The most obvious reference is the plinth, whose outline takes its shape from Harley-Davidson’s Bar & Shield logo. Beneath the styling is a substantial aluminium-MDF construction designed for rigidity and resonance control, complemented by polished aluminium, stainless steel and a genuine leather record mat that loosely recalls the materials of a classic motorcycle saddle. Then, there is the 300 mm glass platter for keeping much of the mechanical layout visible.
The belt-drive system combines a diamond-cut aluminium sub-platter with a 915 g Harley-Davidson record puck, bringing the total moving mass to 2.75 kg. An AC synchronous motor is fed through a DC/AC power generator for consistent speed, with electronic switching between 33 and 45 rpm. Three height-adjustable damped aluminium feet help isolate the deck from its surroundings.
Pro-Ject has paired this with a hand-polished 8.6-inch S-shaped aluminium tonearm, complete with an SME headshell, TPE-damped counterweight and gravity-based adaptive anti-skating system. A pre-adjusted Pick it PRO moving-magnet cartridge is fitted as standard, while the removable headshell leaves scope for future cartridge upgrades.
Handmade in Europe, the Harley-Davidson Turntable is offered as a limited special edition priced at €2,590, although Pro-Ject has not disclosed the actual production number.
