2-In-1 Modular Snow Boot
Snow Peak x New Balance Niobium Concept 3

Japanese outdoor gear brand Snow Peak has once again collaborated with New Balance’s Tokyo Design Studio to launch a new snow boot, the Niobium Concept 3. The name is derived from the chemical element with the symbol Nb in the periodic table, and this marks the third iteration of the modular snow boot design.

Similar to its predecessors, the Niobium Concept 3 features a detachable outer shell designed to combat winter weather and an inner boot that can be worn independently as an indoor room shoe. The upper of the outer shell boasts a white and grey gradient colourway inspired by snowy fields, drawing a connection to the silvery white Niobium metal. Constructed from breathable and waterproof eVent, the upper ensures protection in various conditions. The Vibram XS Trek Evo outsole enhances durability and provides excellent grip on wet surfaces. Notably, the sole design is inspired by the New Balance MT580, a popular choice for trail running in the 1990s. Additional features such as loops, heel protrusions, and the ROLLBAR stability post system contribute to the boot’s functionality and support.

The inner boot is equally intriguing, featuring a Cordura nylon upper and lightweight PrimaLoft insulation, providing excellent heat retention and water repellency. The colour scheme of the inner boot reflects the cold winter sky, and its graphic incorporates the poem “Ame ni mo makezu” (Be not Defeated by the Rain) by Japanese poet Kenji Miyazawa, connecting to the theme of nature’s majesty.
