Mosquito Net For The Feet
Asics × Beams Gel-Kayano 14 Gore-Tex
Asics and Beams have a new collaboration that once again combines functionality with the fashion label’s unique style. Ever since their first crossover project in 2017, pieces have usually involved Gore-Tex for an extra touch of practicality, and the latest Asics × Beams Gel-Kayano 14 Gore-Tex is no different.
Based on Asics’ Gel-Kayano 14 running shoe, which was selected as the International Editor’s Choice by American running magazine Runner’s World in 2008, the collaborative new shoe shares the same structure and is equipped with the trademarked Gel technology in the midsole for excellent shock absorption. The upper is made of synthetic leather and synthetic fibre, and thanks to the added Gore-Tex technology, there’s no doubt as to the shoe’s waterproof capabilities, making it a great option for the rainy season.
The fun part of the Asics × Beams Gel-Kayano 14 Gore-Tex is the detachable mesh that wraps around the shoe and up to the ankle. In Japanese, the word “Kaya” means “mosquito net”, and the design of the shoe is surely inspired by its “Kayano” name. While we’re not exactly sure how effective the mesh is at protecting its wearer from mosquito bites, the stylish combination of snap fasteners, zippers, and pull tabs used to secure the mesh, plus the off-white sole and red detail on all-black upper, is already enough to make the collaboration a sought-after collector’s item.
