Minimal Items for Sophisticated Spaces
Tom Dixon Desktop and Household Accessories

Tom Dixon is a designer one usually associates with furniture and lighting, but catching my eye recently was his new range of desktop and household accessories. Recently launched at Maison & Objet in Paris, Dixon’s latest collection fuses his British heritage with a minimal aesthetic, and features items such as generously-proportioned glass vases with hand-painted copper finishes and cast iron treasure trove boxes with glass crystal lids. The designer’s “cabinet of curiosities,” meanwhile, expands with new pieces for the desktop and study, including pens, desk tidies and pen blocks.

Among my favorites from the range is CUBE — a series of minimalist pieces made from zinc alloy and finished with a copper plate, including a stapler, a desk tidy, a pen and a tape dispenser — as well as TROVE, the aforementioned range of black cast iron containers with magnifying pressed glass lids. Other standouts include Dixon’s unique TANK vases made from mouth-blown clear glass and hand-painted copper detailing, resulting in a collection that brings a sophisticated touch to one’s desk or room.
