Lifesaver on the mountain
2sympleks Surgo mountain rescue vehicle

As more and more people take up recreational hiking, the demand for mountain rescue services inevitably goes up. Usually for more serious or large-scale cases, helicopters would be employed to get rescuers to the wounded. Warsaw based design studio 2sympleks has created a 4×4 off-road vehicle concept named Surgo that can take some of those responsibilities from helicopter rescue teams.

2sympleks’s design process takes heed of extensive research and surveys from professional rescuers and is based around the most crucial intervention issues, existing solutions and potential improvements. Surgo features an innovative suspension system designed and developed by the Automotive Industry Institute in Warsaw for achieving unparalleled off-road abilities such as locking its entire body in shifted position, extra shock absorption, and approaching and departing in angles nearing 90 degrees; all meaning it should be able to climb around in most terrain.

The vehicle takes eight rescuers maximum, while the seats can be easily folded, adding some interior space for carrying two patients on stretchers. It has yet to be confirmed if the concept will see further development.
