Just like electric cars, battery-powered skateboards have exploded onto the scene in the last few years and are rapidly gaining popularity. While most electric skateboards on the market require a remote control to operate, Berlin-based startup Stark Mobility aims to change that with its latest hands-free smart electric skateboard dubbed StarkBoard.

Instead of using a handheld remote to control the skateboard, the StarkBoard uses a custom gyroscope sensor along with intelligent weight and motion sensors for guidance. Once onboard, the speed control monitoring system tracks all your body’s movements for continuous assistance while riding. Propelling it forward takes just a slight tilt of your body. Step on, lean forward and ride. Just as simple as that; no kicking or remote control required.

The StarkBoard uses extra large wheels containing two powerful hub motors, allowing riders to reach top speeds of 20mph while even on rough terrain. Jump on carrying bulky items, and the StarkBoard handles any obstacle without you thinking twice. The removable battery pack can last for 13 miles on a single charge, and you can change to another battery pack at any time on the go. The intelligent braking system activates as soon as you step on the skateboard, which allows you to accelerate quickly, brake in an instant and even go in reverse. If you want to adjust your riding experience, you can always use the StarkBoard App to customise driving modes, battery usage and location tracking.

The StarkBoard is now accepting pre-orders on Indiegogo with estimate delivery in early February 2018.
