2018 Shelby 1000

Shelby America impressed at the 2012 New York Motor Show with the original Shelby 1000, an extreme performance package for the Ford Mustang. At last week’s 2017 SEMA show, Shelby brought back the Shelby 1000 model, using the current sixth generation Ford Mustang GT, and it’s only for the track.

Shelby has replaced the stock 5.0-litre V8 on the Mustang with a 5.2-litre engine featuring new internals, 90-degree crank, modified GT350 cylinder heads and a 4.5-litre Whipple supercharger that helps delivers 1,000 hp. There is also a new high flow fuel system, intercooler, transmission and ECU.

The package not only increases performance, but also enhances the appearance too, with a widened track and custom bodywork including brand new fascia, hood, front fenders, rockers, quarter-panels, rear diffuser and exhaust. Shelby also added an adjustable coil cover suspension, Brembo brakes and wider wheels and tyres. Only 50 packages will be built per model year.
