Toyota Gazoo Racing has unveiled the GR LH2 Racing Concept — a bold new liquid hydrogen-fuelled prototype designed to push the limits of zero-emissions technology in motorsport. The concept made its debut over the weekend at the 93rd 24 Hours of Le Mans, proudly displayed in the Circuit de la Sarthe’s H2 Village, underscoring the event’s ongoing commitment to sustainable racing.
The GR LH2 marks the latest step in Toyota’s journey toward carbon neutrality, combining cutting-edge technology with the high demands of endurance competition. Based on the architecture of the GR010 Hybrid Hypercar, this hydrogen-powered machine cuts an imposing figure on track, measuring 5,100 mm in length and 2,050 mm in width. Unlike previous hydrogen projects, the GR LH2 runs on liquid hydrogen — a more compact and efficient fuel format that allows for greater performance and extended range.
Toyota’s hydrogen development began with Rookie Racing’s hydrogen-powered Corolla in Japan’s Super Taikyu series, followed by a GR Yaris H2 demo at the 2022 Ypres Rally. In 2023, the GR H2 concept hinted at a hydrogen-powered future for Le Mans. The GR LH2 now brings that vision closer to reality with a race-ready prototype.
The GR LH2 will undergo further track testing to refine Toyota’s hydrogen engine technology and supporting infrastructure, while also encouraging broader collaboration across the automotive and energy sectors.
