Football Mania
Nike x Off-White and Nike x Kim Jones

In time for the World Cup, Nike is launching two football-themed collaborations.

The first is partnered with Virgil Abloh, founder of Off-White and artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear. The collection takes inspiration from his memories of youth, blasting hip-hop on the way to soccer matches, for example, and combines it with his interest in mixing lifestyle with sports branding. Titled “Football, Mon Amour”, the collection continues with the big and bold typography nuanced visual cues that are rooted in Abloh’s style. The special edition Flyknit Zoom Fly shoe features a dot at where a player best strikes the ball. The jersey’s black-and-white checker board takes its cue from Czech stripes, while the logo of a lion juggling dots pays homage to ubiquitous crests.

Holding the position of artistic director of Dior Homme, Kim Jones’s “Football Reimagined” collection is visually more subtle, and combines sharp tailoring with sport tech.“That whole punk era was all about proportions that gave power to the wearer, ” says Jones. The DIY ethos of that time favoured cutting things up and putting them back together, and Jones combined his three favorite Nike shoes — The Footscape, the Vandal and the Air Max 97 — into the slick Mercurial shoe, while the silhouettes of the football jerseys and shorts are re-created in a more refined manner.

The “Football Reimagined” and the “Football, Mon Amour” collections launch on 7 June and 14 June respectively on nike.com and select retail stores.
