Childhood Dreams For Sale
Batmobile #005

Although this Batmobile is only a replica, it’s one that is recognised by legendary custom car builder George Barris, creator of the real thing as used in the campy original Batman television series staring Adam West, who sadly past away just last week. This particular Batmobile, #005, was designed and crafted in 1966 by a Batman enthusiast called Jim Sermersheim using only photos and the TV show as his reference. The car is based off a Ford Thunderbird and runs a 289ci V8, meaning it’s actually smaller than the real thing.

The Batmobile is in mint condition thanks to a restoration by Robert Butts in year 1986, who found the car rusting away at the back of Barris’ workshop and bought it for $30,000 USD. The car has been well-looked after ever since, and the shiny black paint still matches perfectly with the bright orange accents. #005 has recently come up for sale for a cool $250,000 USD – buy it and become the Dark Knight.
