Arnold Circus Stools
by Martino Gamper

Designer Martino Gamper has developed a well-known relationship with chairs. His internationally-acclaimed 100 Chairs in 100 Days project, for example, involved collecting discarded pieces from around London and creating new seats from the scraps, so it’s not entirely surprising that one of Gamper’s latest creations is yet another standout seating design.

Named after London’s first council housing project situated in the heart of Shoreditch, the Arnold Circus Stool was designed by Gamper as part of the area’s regeneration project. Colorful and distinguished by sharp lines and a geometric shape, the U.K.-made, plastic rotation-moulded stool is used as the official seating for Arnold Circus’ annual events — including circus picnics, brass band concerts, carrom tournaments, flower plantings, and a variety of music and film events — which adds some context to the functional design.
