Classics On The Grid
Espíritu de Montjuïc 2018

Taking place on 6 to 8 April at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit in Spain, the Espíritu de Montjuïc 2018 was huge success with 212 cars from the 1950s to 1990s entered into classic races of different categories.

This was the kick-off event for the Peter Auto series, which is in its seven edition this year with five historic racing meetings throughout 2018. It was only fitting to begin the season here as the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit has been the measuring rod for Formula 1 manufacturers since its completion in 1991.

There were seven categories in the Espíritu de Montjuïc, namely the Classic Endurance I and II, Euro F2 Classic, Group C, Heritage Touring Cup, Sixties’ Endurance and The Greatest’s Trophy. The Group C  racing was, in particular, a rare sight as it took a lot of work to attract these difficult-to-run cars, but there were 21 in attendance including an old Mercedes-Benz-Jaguar, Peugeot and even Rondeau on the track.

The brand new Greatest’s Trophy was dedicated to cars raced in endurance in the 1950-1960s. Strict rules were applied to minimise the risks for these extremely rare and valuable motors. 18 cars were on the grid, with a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/C driven by Vincent Gaye taking first place, followed by a Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta and a Maserati 300 S.

On 18 to 20 May, all these cars will arrive Belgium for the Spa-Classic. In the meantime, we’ve selected some of our favourite classics from the Espíritu de Montjuïc.
