If you were one of those lucky ticket holders of the Paddock Club in any Formula 1 race in the 2018 season, you might have seen this beautifully crafted Formula 1 slot car track. Commissioned by Formula 1, this slot car track was custom built by Detroit-based specialist Slot Mods Raceways. It has travelled to every F1 Grand Prix during 2018, placed inside the Paddock Club for its visitors including drivers, industry insiders and celebs.
The original racetrack design measuring at 213 × 488 × 76 cm was built out of wood to 1:32 scale, allowing two cars to race against each other each time. In addition to the basic track, Slot Mods Raceways has added built-in electronic lap timing and on-track cameras to make the game more complete and fun. Perhaps what grabs our attention is the level of detail. From the racing enthusiasts on the grandstands, the staff of the racing teams to the signage and foliage lining the circuit, these are all hand-painted by artists, making each slot car track three to six months to complete.
The Formula 1 slot car racetrack will be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s at Abu Dhabi on 30 November, with proceeds to benefit the Reaching the Last Mile Fund.
