World’s Lightest
Richard Mille RM 50-03 McLaren F1

Late last year McLaren-Honda and Richard Mille announced a new 10-year partnership, and their first joint project has now been announced. Unveiled at the SIHH in Geneva, the RM 50-03 Tourbillon Split Seconds Chronograph Ultralight McLaren F1 weighs just 38 grams, including the strap. While its name goes a long way to explaining the ethos behind the piece, Richard Mille goes further, explaining that the ultralight weight is a direct result of a collaboration between the two companies and the University of Manchester on developing a unique graphene-based composite Graph TPT. Graphene is a nano-material which is six times lighter and 200 times stronger than steel. The movement itself is just seven grams and made of grade five titanium and carbon.

It is difficult to imagine what wearing a 38 gram watch feels like unless you have one on your wrist… Chances are slim, though, as the RM 50-03 McLaren F1 will only be produced in a numbered limited edition of 75 pieces and will only be available direct from Richard Mille boutiques.
