World’s Fastest Electric Car
NIO EP9

NextEV, probably best known as the Chinese company that has been competing in the Formula E Championship since it was established in 2014, just unveiled the new NIO brand in London with its first electric supercar; the EP9. The timing is perfect, as the EP9 just conquered the Nürburgring Nordschliefe, aka the Green Hell, last month with a lap record of 7 minutes and 5.12 seconds, making it officially the fastest electric car in the world.

The beautifully proportioned hyper car runs four inboard motors and four individual gearboxes, and delivers one MegaWatt of power, which translates to 1,341 hp. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and to 200 km/h in 7.1 seconds, while speed tops out at 313 km/h. The battery is interchangeable, and can be fully charged in merely 45 minutes, with the ability to run 427 km on a single charge. All this tech does not make for a light car however: even though many parts of the car are made of carbon fibre, the vehicle still weighs in at 1,735 kg.

Each unit of NIO EP9 costs 1.2 million US dollars to build and only six units will be constructed as prototypes. The company also aims to launch a premium electric saloon by the end of 2017.
