Land Rover for Tusk Rhino Trail

The latest Land Rover creation travelling on the road is not a brand new vehicle, but a 1.2 meter-long rhino model. This is because the British automaker has taken park on the Tusk Rhino Trail, an art installation project that celebrates the magnificence of the rhino and draws attention to the severe threat of poaching to their survival.

Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer of Land Rover, is one of the 21 international artists and designers including Ronnie Wood, Marc Quinn, Gavin Turk, Axel Scheffler and the Chapman Brothers who contributed to the project. McGovern rhino is covered in a chrome finish with reflective effect, making it visible from a long distance for generating awareness to this African animal. The horn is painted red for signifying the absurdity of hunting this beautiful animal for just this small part.

The chrome rhino is now located in Trafalgar Square in London for public’s viewing. All 21 rhinos are being displayed in different parts of London until 22 September and the locations can be found on the Tusk Rhino Trail website. They will then be auctioned by Christie’s on 9 October and the proceeds will be used to support conservation projects protecting rhino and other iconic African species.
