Vision of Future Racing
FORMUL2 by Radek Štěpán

From the moment they first appeared, formula car racing has remained incredibly engrossing; both fans and pundits have never stopped imagining the future development of the sport. This speculation was perhaps seen best in the renowned Japanese animation “Cyber Formula” created back in the 90’s.

Another formula racing enthusiast, Radek Štěpán from Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, University of West Bohemia, has come forward with a thesis on the design of an electric racing formula car, named FORMUL2, which is not only aesthetically stylish but also involves innovative solutions for future racing. The envisioned FORMUL2 race format combines two different disciplines – tarmac surface and dirt surface, with droid controlled pit stops in between. The FORMUL2 car’s concept design shows one cockpit attached to two front and rear propulsion pods, one on each side with wheels installed. Another set of pods, these fitted with dirt tires, are also available to be attached to the cockpit. In-race transformation of the car from on-road to off-road setup and vice-versa is carried out by droids switching propulsion pods in the pits.

A fascinating idea and designer Radek’s creations not only exhibit his vision of future racing, but could indeed become the basis for the possible development of a computer game.
