Tribute To A Legend
2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt

The 10-minute chase scene in Bullitt is one of the most iconic automobile appearances in movie history, with Steve McQueen driving a 1968 green Ford Mustang fastback roaring through San Francisco. 50 years later, Ford is releasing a special edition Mustang Bullitt that pays tribute to the movie car.

The new Bullitt wears the same Dark Highland Green (black is also available). It also does not have any badge or detail on the exterior and features a manual transmission with a white cue ball knob on the gear shifter as a tribute. Fitted with the Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package, the upgraded 5.0-litre V8 engine generates 475 hp and 570 Nm and has a top speed of 263 km/h. Other features include the bespoke front grille, subtle chrome accents, 19-inch wheels and Brembo brakes.

At the launch, Ford also rolled out one of two 1968 Mustangs used in the movie. The car is currently owned by Sean Kiernan and is valued at US$4 million, but Kiernan intends to keep it and pass it down for his family. The other car was tracked down last year in Mexico but had already undergone restoration work, making Kiernan’s example the more original and valuable one.
