Transformers on the Track
D3+Transformers Racing Team

We are all familiar with the Transformers universe. While this Radical RXC race car that will enter into the International Motor Sport Association (IMSA) WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series next year won’t be turning into a robot anytime soon, it has picked up some interesting sponsorship.

The D3+Transformers Racing Team was formed under a three-year partnership between the Transformers franchise owner Hasbro and Dawson Racing. The team will field a new 2018 Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class car. The Transformers livery is gracing the exterior of a Radical RXC, while father and son duo Ian and Simon Dawson are deciding which of the four LMP2 chassis the team will go ahead for the coming season. Further information including the driver line-up will be announced at Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in early October.

The collaboration has certainly bought attention and opportunities to Dawson Racing, Hasbro as well as IMSA. Scott Atherton, President of IMSA explained in a statement; “This team introduces a new sponsor to our sport that has a natural fit and growing demographic – kids asking parents to bring them to races, which we are seeing more and more.”
