Top Picks at The Goodwood Revival
2017 Goodwood Revival's pick of the litter

The Goodwood Revival is always absolutely jam-packed with some of the finest vintage race cars ever produced. Every time we arrive at this hallowed circuit, we never know where to look first, and what to focus our cameras on. With that said, today our team got together over lunch in the media room to pick our three favourite machines from this year’s Goodwood Revival. These are our choices:

Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar Type-D

With this year’s Revival celebrating all things Ecurie Ecosse, one of these beautiful blue cars from the famous Scottish team is an obvious choice, and it’s the D-Type Longnoses that capture our attention the most. A beautiful, simple and elegant silhouette, the D-Types dominated Le Mans in the mid fifties and went some way towards proving that you don’t need to be a big manufacturer-backed team to compete and win at the top level of motorsport.

Ferrari 330 GTO

It’s almost a given that Ferrari’s legendary 250 GTO is going to make it onto any best of the best vintage car list, but we’re going one better, with Carlo Vögele’s incredibly rare 330 GTO. Carlo’s Ferrari is one of only three in existence, and runs a bigger 4-litre V12. The cars were built and raced briefly by Scuderia Ferrari before being sold on to privateers. The sound and pure track presence of this car as it thunders around Goodwood’s fast bends is something that needs to be seen and heard in person to be truly appreciated.

Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing

Late Saturday afternoon saw some amazing racing in the Freddie March Memorial Trophy, which hosted a wide range of Ferraris, Jaguars, Maseratis, Frazers and one lonesome Mercedes-Benz 300SL. One of the most beautiful sports cars ever built, the 300SL just has so much presense on track, especially when piloted by the legendary Jochen Mass, in this particular instance. The three litre six cylinder in this car has such a distinct sound, and made it easy to predict it’s next appearance on the front straight.
