LEGO Back to the Future Time Machine

Back to the Future’s DeLorean, the iconic eighties sportscar that was transformed into a time machine by Doc Brown, played by Christopher Lloyd, is perhaps the most well known movie car of all time. So when LEGO recently announced a new Back to the Future Time Machine model set, it wasn’t all that surprising that it was met with a lot of excitement and anticipation from the community.

Launched under the Creator Expert line, the LEGO Back to the Future Time Machine set comes with 1,872 pieces, and measures over 35.5cm long, 19cm wide, and 11cm tall when completed. What’s so great about this LEGO set is that it’s a three-in-one model, so builders can recreate each version of the Time Machine in the trilogy: version 1 with a lightning rod and plutonium chamber, version 2 featuring Mr. Fusion and a hover conversion, and version 3 fitted with whitewall tyres and a circuit board as seen in the last chapter of the trilogy.

The details of the DeLorean are also recreated faithfully, be it the iconic light-up flux capacitor, the wheels that fold down for flight mode, the signature opening gullwing doors and hood, printed dashboard dates, and much more. Not to be missed, of course, are the LEGO minifigure versions of Doc Brown and Marty McFly, plus accessories including Marty’s hoverboard and swappable license plates.

Set to release on 1 April, the LEGO Back to the Future Time Machine is priced at US$169.99.
