Third generation mid-ship concept
Hyundai RM 16

Following the footsteps of the RM14 and RM15, Hyundai debuted its high-performance concept, RM16, at the 2016 Busan International Motor Show. The latest addition under the ‘N’ performance sub-brand is part of Hyundai’s RM (meaning Racing Midship) project aimed at testing and refining high-performance technologies for use in upcoming releases.

The design of the RM16 two-seater is the epitome of “form follows function” with styling optimized for superior aerodynamics and purpose; the front, the low-extended hood, narrow headlamps, and robust air intakes suggest a very aggressive image, as do the lightweight carbon fibre body panels. While the concept vaguely takes its cue from the Veloster, mechanically it relies upon the RM14’s six-speed manual transmission and midship-mounted 2.0-litre theta T-GDI engine. The weight distribution, with 43% at the front and 57% at the rear is again the same as its sport-focused predecessors. Hyundai has also included new technologies, such as an electric supercharger and an automatically controlled rear spoiler. Time will tell if the concept moves into production but in this form, this latest RM should be worth the wait.
