The Very First Example
First production Jaguar D-Type joining Concours of Elegance

Entering it’s seventh year, the Concours of Elegance taking place in the Hampton Court Palace in the UK between 6-8 September is welcoming more signifiant models that vintage car enthusiasts wouldn’t want to miss. The first production Jaguar D-Type and the 15th E-Type will be joining other historic Jaguars, Ferraris and Aston Martin Zagatos.

The first D-Type rolled off the production line in 1955. With chassis number XKD 509, the 3.4-litre straight-six powered race car has kept its matching-numbers engine, gearbox and chassis, plus the front subframe and monocoque centre-section. The 1970s black body respray that replaced dark blue and white American racing livery is still well maintained.

Another interesting model on display will be the 15th E-Type built. Originally one of the six E-Types displayed at the 1961 Scottish Motor Show. In 1976 it was dismantled with plans of having it fully restored, but it didn’t happen until 2013 when a 3000-hour restoration work took place with many of the original components retained.
