The Power of Words
Typewriter Guns by Eric Nado

Language is a powerful tool to not just allow people to communicate, but to also serve as a medium of creative expression. Although these days most people type on keyboards or phone screens, there was a time when getting documents and reports typed up on a typewriter was the preferred and official recording method.

Even though we seldom use a typewriter now, it doesn’t stop Canadian artist Eric Nado expressing the idea of “words are mightier than the gun” by creating stunning art pieces with typewriters. Nado deconstructed each of the vintage typewriter models, such as Underwood Olivetti Lettera 32, piece by piece. He then reassembled every single piece of the machine and transformed it into an evocative Typewriter Gun. Each gun is slightly different because of the unique setup and parts from the original typewriter. Although they are non-functional, either as guns or as typewriters, they are highly realistic and trigger viewers to contemplate further on their true meaning.
