The New Top Model
2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series

The new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is finally here. As the marque’s most distinguished model, the GT Black Series pushes the limit with the most powerful AMG V8 ever produced, as well as the most elaborate aerodynamics.

The new 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 delivers 730 hp at 6,700 rpm and 800 Nm from just 2,000 rpm to 6,000 rpm. Accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.2 seconds and 200 km/h is hit in just under nine seconds, while the speed maxes out at 325 km/h. The M178 LS2, as it’s known in the factory, runs a flat-plane crankshaft that creates more evenly-distributed combustion in all cylinders and offers a more agile throttle response. Other new additions to the engine include revised twin turbochargers, new camshafts and exhaust manifolds, and a larger intercooler.

As the top of the range GT, the new model has a track-focused appearance and aerodynamic design reminiscent of the AMG GT3 and AMG GT4 racing cars, with a giant grille, manually-adjustable front splitter, and of course, a massive rear wing. The wing too can be manually adjusted for suitable rear downforce, while a movable flap in the upper blade is electronically controlled for the best dynamics in different driving modes.

It’s almost by default that track-focus machines carry an extensive amount of carbon fibre these days, and the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series does not disappoint. Aside from the aero components, carbon fibre is also used for the roof, bonnet, transmission mounts, underbody, and many bits and pieces in the interior. The cockpit is also given an exclusive look, with Napa leather and DINAMICA microfibre in black, complemented with contrasting orange accents.
