The GTO Killer
1963 Jaguar E-Type Lightweight Competition Coupe

Known as the “GTO killer”, a 1963 Jaguar E-Type Lightweight Competition Coupe is joining the other stunning vehicles to be auctioned at this year’s Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction. This year will also mark the 20th anniversary of Bonhams hosting its collector car auction during the Monterey Peninsula Car Week.

This particular Jaguar E-Type was first introduced at Le Mans in 1963, where it was given the number 14. Later, Team Cunningham would race it at the Road America 500 and then again at the Bridgehampton 500 where it finished fourth overall. Once retired, the pedigreed racecar was exhibited at the Cunningham Museum and, after Mr. Cunningham sold his private collection, was later owned by noted collectors Lord Bamford, Paul Vestey and Campbell McLaren.

In the good old days, the Jaguar E-Types were faster than the fabled Ferrari 250 GTOs on most tracks. It is no surprise that the Jaguar E-Type is regarded as one of the most successful and iconic sports-racing cars ever produced.

The Jaguar E-Type will be auctioned on Friday, August 18th at Quail Lodge in Carmel, California.
