The “Consumer” Car
By Joey Ruiter

Joey Ruiter recently released his latest work titled “Consumer”, an ultra minimalist concept vehicle cloaked in matte black. Set on four wheels but without doors, the concept features an angular slab-like design meant to change our expectations of automotive design and how a vehicle fits in with contemporary living. With the overall length of 135 inches and a wheelbase around 90 inches, the “Consumer” is tiny. Its front fascia is a two-way mirror that reflects the surrounding environment; the edges of this mirrored frame serve as air intakes while 54,000 lumens worth of LED lights provide night illumination. Although we’re not anticipating “Consumer” to enter the market anytime soon, we expect this futuristic vehicle’s ability to “consume everything: light; darkness; air; and space.” will as Ruiter suggested, affect the direction of future design philosophy.
