The Birth Of Extremeness
Ferrari P80/C unveiled in ‘Prototipo’ short film

As previewed yesterday, PROTOTIPO – A One-Off Journey produced by Blackbird documents the birth of the latest Ferrari one-off project Ferrari P80/C –  the track-only, most extreme one-off project the Italian automaker has ever created.

The short documentary film allows viewers to peek inside the exclusive world of Ferrari One-Off Projects – a service only available to long-term Ferrari clients who go beyond being a collector and embody the marque. Shot inside Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello, PROTOTIPO interviews key Ferrari personnels in charge of the project, including Head of Design of the Ferrari Styling Centre Flavio Manzoni explaining the concept and influences of P80/C, and Ferrari GT Race Driver Alessandro pier Guidi after test driving the track-only bespoke car.

The brief for P80/C is simple – to recreate a Ferrari Sports Prototype for the modern day. Using a 488 GT3 race car as a donor car, the design of the P80/C takes inspiration from the iconic Sports Prototypes including the 330 P3/P4, as well as the 1966 Dino 206 S. The fact that this one-off project is track-only race car gives Ferrari’s design and engineering teams an opportunity to really push the boundaries for creating something never been done before, which also explains why the P80/C  project had the longest development time of any Ferrari one-off made to date, having kicked off in 2015.

The wedge-shaped body of P80/C is made entirely of carbon fibre, with some of the aerodynamic parts left bare and the rest coved in Rosso Vero red paint. The styling references the 330 P3/P4 for its wrap-around windscreen and the aluminium louvres on the engine cover, while at the back the massive diffuser seems to separate from the rest of the car because of the catamaran-type architecture. The car features a dual set-up: one that includes a carbon-fibre wing and 18” single-nut wheels for racing, and an exhibition package with 21” wheels but without aerodynamic appendages for concours.

Watch the PROTOTIPO film below to appreciate the P80/C in full and share the passion of the Ferrari team as they explain on the project. Most importantly, tune up to listen to the roaring sound as the P80/C demonstrates its true power on track.
