Taking the GR86 Off Road
Kuhl Outroad

Kuhl, one of Japan’s most ambitious aftermarket tuners, has unveiled something few expected: an off-road reinterpretation of the Toyota GR86. Named Kuhl Outroad, it transforms the lightweight rear-drive coupé, originally designed for asphalt, into a lifted and widened trail machine built for all-terrain adventure.

The Outroad raises the GR86 by 3 inches using Kuhl’s own Racing Damper coilovers, engineered to balance ride comfort with proper sporting response. Optional hydraulic lifters add a further 40 mm of clearance. Under the bonnet, the stock 2.4-litre flat-four receives a Trust turbo kit, lifting power by around 50 hp over the factory 232 hp output. The chassis has been widened for stability, while the revised suspension and brake package aims to make the car as playful on a dirt road as it is composed on tarmac. Kuhl’s ambition is simple: one car for the street, the circuit, and now the rough stuff.

Visually, it’s unmistakably a Kuhl creation. The Outroad wears a full aero suite, including new bumpers, a deep front spoiler, side steps, a rear diffuser, and over-fenders that add 25 mm of width per corner. A roof rack, rear window louvres, and optional chunky 18-inch Verz-Wheels reinforce the off-road flavour. Inside and underneath, the car retains the GR86’s sporting essentials, now tuned for more versatile thrills.

Kuhl will debut the GR86 Outroad at the Tokyo Auto Salon, with Japanese sales beginning in late 2026. Pricing will start at 4,150,000 yen.
