Stairway To Heaven
Range Rover Sport PHEV climbs 999 steps to Heaven’s Gate

Automakers use plenty of different ways to promote their cars, but what Land Rover has achieved with the new Range Rover Sport P400e plug-in hybrid truly makes an impression that is difficult to forget. The PHEV successfully ran up the 11.3 km Dragon Road with 99 turns located in Tianmen Mountain in China, before conquering the 45-degree staircase of 999 steps leading to the Heaven’s Gate landmark.

The car in action was not a special tuned version but just the showroom standard model. Driven by Le Mans class-winner and Panasonic Jaguar Racing reserve and test driver Ho-Pin Tung, the P400e features a powertrain that consists of a 116 hp electric motor and a 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine, outputting 404 hp and 640 Nm combined.

“I’ve experienced Formula E, Formula 1 and won at the 24 Hours of Le Mans but this was without doubt one of the most demanding driving challenges I’ve ever faced,” said Ho-Pin Tung. The challenge was completed effortlessly thanks to the Dynamic mode on the car’s Terrain Response 2 system.
