Sound From Sculptures
Bang & Olufsen Beolab 90 Phantom and Mirage Editions

Bang & Olufsen is marking its centenary with a series of five ultra-limited Atelier editions, and the latest entries, following the inaugural Beolab 90 Titan Edition, may be the boldest yet. The Beolab 90 Phantom Edition and Beolab 90 Mirage Edition take the brand’s flagship loudspeaker as their foundation and reimagine it as sculptural art for the home.

Launched in 2015, the Beolab 90 is famed for its 18 bespoke drivers and advanced beam-forming technology, delivering startling precision and room-filling power. These new editions retain that performance pedigree while transforming the speaker’s visual identity into something far more expressive.

The Phantom Edition is the darker, moodier statement. Finished in deep black tones and wrapped in semi-transparent PVD-coated metal mesh, it reveals glimpses of its internal structure like a piece of industrial couture. Carbon-fibre face masks and base panels add a motorsport edge, while a pearl-blasted aluminium skeleton lends architectural presence. Each carbon panel is hand-laid, reinforcing the Phantom Edition’s status as a collectable rather than simply high-end audio equipment.

The Mirage Edition heads in the opposite direction. Here, colour takes centre stage, with an iridescent fabric skin that shifts between sapphire and magenta, echoing the movement of sound waves. Five aluminium components per speaker are anodised with bespoke gradients, their wave-textured surfaces polished by hand in Bang & Olufsen’s specialist Atelier. The result is reminiscent of a kinetic art object that transforms with the light.

Limited to just ten pairs each, the Phantom and Mirage Editions extend Bang & Olufsen’s centenary celebration, with two more editions yet to be revealed.
