Solar Charged Jacket by Vollebak

The Solar Charged Jacket from Vollbak is probably one of the most technologically advanced jackets the world has ever seen. The jacket’s waterproof membrane fabric employs a highly active phosphorescent compound that rapidly absorbs and stores light from almost any light source, whether it’s for 2 minutes or 2 hours. Once charged, the material then slowly re-releases that energy as a glowing light when day turns to night.

The glow is at its brightest immediately following a charge and can remain on for up to 12 hours. During daylight, the coat is light grey. When fully charged, it glows green. As the night advances, the brand claims the jacket fades to “silvery grey, then white.”

The featherlight jacket’s three-layer stretch fabric provides freedom of movement, and at only 230g, takes up very little space or weight when packed. The jacket is waterproofed to keep you dry in anything from a summer shower to a downpour in the mountains, with an ultra thin layer housed inside a translucent mesh that also allows sweat to evaporate. Every seam’s sealed with specially designed transparent tape, so the glow remains continuous. It also has a waterproof zip pocket at the back with enough room for your phone, cards and keys.
