Sicilian Road Trip
2018 Targa Florio Classic

The Targa Florio was once an open road endurance race held in Sicily. It was the oldest sports car racing event, first held in 1906, but ended in 1977 due to safety concerns. The Targa Florio Classic recalls the spirit of the historic race and allows participants enjoy the beautiful scenery around the island over a few days of regularity racing. The 2018 edition took place earlier this month attracted over 150 cars racing on the hills above Palermo and inside the Madonie Circuit.

There were two parts in the event: The main ‘Classic’ race and the ‘Ferrari Tribute to Targa Florio’. The Targa Florio Classic was open to cars built before 1977. Highlights of registered cars for this year included a 1927 Lancia Lambda — the oldest car registered to the event, 1930 Alfa Romeo 6C1750 Gran Sport “Testa Fissa”, 1949 Ferrari 166 MM, 1961 Giulietta Spider, 1971 Dino 246 GT and more. The Ferrari Tribute to Targa Florio was open to Ferrari cars of any era, and this year over thirty Ferraris of the current range were cruising on the road, including 488 GTB, 488 Spider, Portofino, 812 Superfast and GTC4Lusso, as well as a 1984 Testarossa. Classic vintage cars or not,  the race was the best opportunity to discover the picturesque spots in Sicily by driving through fascinating territories and landscapes.
