Ford Escort RS1800 MK 2 1:25 Model

Your enthusiasm in a project can be shown through hard work and dedication.  Professional jeweller Russell Lord is a Ford Escort enthusiast and over the years he has collected 55 of them. He has applied his expertise in jewellery making on building a Ford Escort model, and the finished work will be available for charity auction starting on 2 May, where all proceeds from the auction will be donated to several children charities.

The Ford Escort RS1800 is a replica of the of late-70s race car driven by Ari Vatanen, thus the full gear such as roll-cage, massive spotlights in the front and rallying bucket seats. Yet this 1:25 scale model is slightly over six inches long and it is not your ordinary model car. First of all Russell Lord started working on it over 25 years ago and has spent around 1,300 hours building it. Secondly, the model is made of precious metal including platinum, white gold, yellow gold and silver, and studded with diamonds, sapphires and rubies. Its creator estimates having spent around £78,000 on it just for the costs of the materials. Around 75-80% of the car is made of silver and other precious metals highlight body parts and the interior such as the grille, wheels, gearlever, steering wheel and more. The headlights are made of 0.65 carat diamonds, while the lower spotlights are each 0.75 carat. The list just goes on and on, so head over to The Market auction page for more information on this project of passion.
